Question:

Money value in Uruguay?

My family is planning a trip to Uruguay some time in the near future, although we have found the exchange rate to be close to one us dollar for every 24.5 nuevo pesos, what is one nuevo peso worth?? Can one nuevo peso buy there what one us dollar buys here? Or does the 24.5 nuevo peso there buy what one us dollar here.

We just would like to know before we go.

Thanks

  1. 1 peso will certainly not buy what a dollar buys in the US.  for local goods, especially food, 24.5 pesos will buy more than one dollar will in the US.  Same with local hotels and other locally made goods (ie leather, etc.)

Expect Punta del Este in the December to February season and some other high class coastal resorts to be as expensive as Miami.  Everywhere else is much cheaper than the US.

  2. Hi. In Uruguay you need 24.5 pesos to buy 1 dollar. That means that if you come here with 1 dollar you will be able to buy things of value 24.5 pesos.

Note: Uruguay is a cheap countries, specially for people who come from the US, Euro-Europe, and the UK!! (1 pound = 50 pesos!!!)

Don't hesitate to contact me.. I'm an Uruguayan looking foreword to college in the US.

PS: Uruguay is WAY CHEAPER than Miami, FL, even in the southern summer!!!
