Monisha Kaltenborn pleased with Kamui Kobayashi’s performance – Formula 1 news
Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn has expressed her appreciation for Kamui Kobayashi after he finished sixth in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this Sunday.
Kobayashi had started from the fifteenth position on the grid and drove fantastically to attain his sixth position and scoring eight points for his team while teammate Sergio Perez failed to add anymore points to his.
Kaltenborn appreciated the driver for maintaining his calm through the incident filled race and for fighting to gain points despite his car problem.
“Kamui had a fantastic race,” Kaltenborn told ESPN exclusively. “First of all he stayed out of all these kind of trouble and secondly he himself had a technical trouble pretty much from the beginning of the race. He coped very well with it because he had
an issue with his downshift and that resulted eventually in not having the full power in his recovery system.”
The Sauber F1 team has been at sixth position on the constructors’ grid and has been hopeful of overtaking Mercedes for the fifth place. Since the Mercedes drivers failed to score any points in this race, the points difference between the teams has been
narrowed down to twelve points now.
“I think he fought once again very well and gave us extremely valuable points,” the team principal added.
Kobayashi himself has also been very happy of scoring important points for his team. He admitted that the race had been tough so he was pleased with his achievement and is looking forward to scoring more points in the remaining two races of the season so
as to replace Mercedes for the fifth position in the constructors’ championship.
He added that he was not able to extract the maximum out of his car due to the problem with it but he still thinks he had a great race. Kobayashi also appreciated his team for putting in good effort with the timing and strategy.
The driver’s future with the team has been surrounded in uncertainty as it has already announced to replace Perez with Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg. Sauber had stated that the decision about next year’s second driver can be expected later in the season.
