Monisha Kaltenborn says Sauber are interested in Michael Schumacher – Formula 1 news
Sauber CEO, Monisha Kaltenborn has said that they are very much interested to take Michael Schumacher of Mercedes in their team in 2013.
Schumacher’s contract with the Brackley based team is going to end at the conclusion of this season and he will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton, who is currently in McLaren, in the next year. Moreover, the future of the seven-time world champion is still undecided.
Meanwhile, Sergio Perez of the Swiss team who has impressed everyone with his amazing driving skills in the season so far has signed a multi-year contract with McLaren and will be driving as Jenson Button’s teammate from the coming year onwards.
On the other hand, the 43-year-old has received an open offer from the Hinwil based team as Kaltenborn said that they would definitely consider him as a potential replacement of Perez in the team if he will be willing to join them.
Although, she said that the record championship holder has always raced with big teams as compared to their squad, however, they will still look forward to have him in their side.
“Of course it's nice to think of such a possibility, that we can ask ourselves if we can get a seven-time world champion when he is on the market,” Kaltenborn told the sportsdaily Bild, adding: “Michael has until now been with just big stables which we can't
compare ourselves to”.
In addition, it will be important to mention that Peter Sauber, the owner of Sauber has said that they are in no hurry about deciding their next year’s driver line-up and will wait until they get some good options.
“Before he leaves, there are still six races to come in which we will give Sergio our utmost support with the aim of gaining as many points as possible,” Sauber said in a statement. “As to our drivers for 2013, we will announce them in due course.”
The Swiss squad has emerged as one of the most competent midfield contenders in this year’s championship and it will be interesting to see who they sign as Kamui Kobayashi’s teammate in the coming season.
