Monisha Kaltenborn thinks Sauber can retain drivers by developing strong cars – Formula 1 news
Sauber team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn has said that they can retain their competitive drivers in the future if they develop strong cars for them.
Sergio Perez of the Swiss team has performed tremendously well and has impressed everyone with his amazing pace in the season so far. Although, his team wanted to keep him for the next season too but he has recently signed a new contract with McLaren and
will join them as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement in 2013.
On the other hand, the British driver has planned to move to Mercedes as Michael Schumacher’s replacement while the seven-time world champion has decided to take retirement at the conclusion of this season.
Kaltenborn said that they are quite upset that they couldn’t keep Perez in their team. Nevertheless, she asserted that they are looking forward to develop competitive car so as to be able to prevent their drivers from moving to other teams.
“We wanted Sergio to stay, but it was not possible,” Kaltenborn is quoted by Brazil’s Totalrace.
“However, if we can [always] have a competitive car like this season, we can prevent this situation from happening again in the future,” she added.
In addition, she said that they have a great legacy of introducing talented young drivers in F1. She also said that they have always provided tremendous support to flourish the skills of youngsters so that they many emerge as star drivers in the future.
“We have a great history of bringing young talent into the sport and giving them all the support they need to develop, learn as quickly as possible and move forward,” she continued.
Besides, she said that they are aiming to beat the Brackley based team in this year’s constructors’ championship and are trying their best to make the essential updates in their car to perform well in the remainder of the season.
“I think what we did this year is very important for the team’s strategy for the coming years,” she insisted.
It will be very exciting to see how the Hinwil based team performs in the remaining four races of the ongoing season.
