Monisha Kaltenborn wants Nico Hulkenberg to lead Sauber in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Sauber team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn has said that they want Nico Hulkenberg to act as their lead driver in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Hulkenberg is going to leave Force India at the end of this year and has signed a new deal with the Hinwil based team for the next season where he will replace Sergio Perez who has planned to join McLaren as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement.
In contrast, Hamilton is going to move to Mercedes in the next year as Michael Schumacher’s replacement who has taken retirement from the sport.
The German driver has got some amazing driving skills and has been considered as one of the most talented drivers in the field. He has attained some remarkable results with the Silverstone based team in this season.
On the other hand, Hulkenberg’s new teammate, Esteban Gutierrez is going to take part in his first ever F1 season.
Even though, Kaltenborn insisted that they will treat both their drivers equally. However, she has expressed that they are hoping to see the 25-year-old in the lead role in the coming season as he has more experience about the sport.
“We don’t have a first and second driver, both are treated the same,” Kaltenborn said.
“But of course we hope Nico, who is very good in certain areas, takes some leadership such as with the (car) development and the relationship with the engineers,” she is quoted by Brazil’s Totalrace.
Besides, Hulkenberg thinks that the Swiss squad is slightly better than Force India. He also said that he is very excited to secure a deal with Sauber and is positively looking forward to attain even better results in the next season.
“I see Sauber slightly above Force India,” said the German, “Sauber had four podiums (in 2012) and Force India none. It will be interesting to be with a team that has reached the podium a few times, and I think they can develop even more.”
In this season, he secured 11th place finish in the drivers’ championship and it will be exciting to see how he performs in the next year.
