Monitor cutting out

been having problems with my monitor. it runs fine for about half an hour then it goes black and the message 'not optimum mode  recommended mode 1280x1024 60hz'  is displayed. I have been in to the settings on my mac g5 and changed resolution but nothing seems to solve the problem, can you help please
