  1. There are buttons on almost every monitor to change resolution. If not then go to Start-Control Panel-Display Settings ...and there will a option like change resolution etc !

  2. Re-instal graphic card drivers.

restart computer. After bios load , press F8

    Go to safe mode.

    check resolution, should be 800x600.

shutdown & restart to boot in normal mode.

    If problem persists,

At  start up , after pressing F8,go to vga mode.

    check resolution.

    restart in normal mode.

    Also, go to control panel

    system

    hardware

    device manager

    expand(+) display

ensure your graphic card driver only is active.

if both are active, right click on motherboard video driver,

    click disable.

    Restart computer.

If problem still persists, go to graphic card manufacturer's site,& download updated driver.

    PS;

    Remove your graphic card .

run your computer without graphic card, through normal monitor port.

enable/instal original video drivers of motherboard.

This  will give an idea, whether  graphic card is not defective.

YOU CAN RE-INSTAL GRAPHIC CARD AGAIN LATTER.

Ensure two video drivers of motherboard & graphic card are not active simoutaneously.

While in graphic card mode, ensure monitor is connected to graphic card video out port.

ALSO ENSURE, WHEN GRAPHIC CARD IS INSTALLED,/REMOVED, POWER SYSTEM , SHOULD BE OFF.
