I have just installed a new power supply on my brother's computer because before it would not stay on for more then 3 secs. It now powers up fine but the monitor does not display anything at all. I believe it might be the video card itself. But does anyone have any other ideas? The monitor is fine because I tested it on other computers and it displays no problem. So again maybe the video card is just dead?

  1. Two things cause that video card is going bad or is not seated good , ram is not seated good.

  2. Could be a number of things.  If the mobo requires 20+4 pin power supply and you install a 20 pin power supply, this is one instance that will cause this.  The computer will not turn on.  If a memory module has gone bad, you won't get anything on the screen either.  Possible processor failure.  If it's the video card, disable it.  The monitor has it's own set of generics that'll work until you change the video card.  This will rule out the video card, if it is not the problem.

  3. yea i would try replacing the video card from another computer and see if that works. if it doesnt then something else may have been screwed up when the original power supply went out.
