So i have a computer and monitor that are about a year old now i put alot more ram and a 8800 BFG video card in it has run fine for about 6 months since I put that stuff in. but now when i turn my computer off and turn it back on the tower starts up fine but my monitor even though the power light comes on and it shows even shows a box talking about colors but nothing from my actual computer shows up. I end up having to force shutdown :( and restart it about 10 times then boom it will just randomly turn on and work fine till i turn it off again. Is this a sign of a dying monitor or a power supply issue or something else?

Thank you for any advice

  1. have it chacked by a technition or Geek squad. Theres proabably somthing wrong with the startup feature.

  2. sorry i need points

  3. I would make sure that the cable connection going from the monitor to the computer is connected completely and is tightly connected to both the video card and the back of your monitor (some monitors have removable cables) also make sure that the power cable is plugged in tightly on both ends. If none of that helps the video card could be messing up if you have a old one try putting that back into the machine and see if the problem is still there and if it is then is sounds like its the monitor.

  4. it does not sound like a dying monitor rather souds like your power supply if you are running stock power supply in a pre-built computer than that is definitely the problem 8800's take around 400 watts of power and stock power supplys usually only give between 250 watts to 300 watts of power
