Monkey muggers: what *kind* of monkey?

There are various sites across the world (the Batu Caves and several "Monkey Temples" come to mind) that are populated (some would say "plagued") by large groups of bold monkeys. These monkeys are notorious for stealing any small items the passing tourists have, and for outright attacking people to get their food. My question is: what kinds of monkeys are these?

(Note, I picked the category of Malaysia because I mentioned Batu Caves, but I am asking about these sites anywhere in Asia or the world.)
