CryTek UK releases a statement explaining that they used up their entire development budget on buying monkeys from the black market. Wait, what?
TimeSplitters is one of the most loved series since its debut all the way back at the start of the millennium as a launch title for the PlayStation 2. Since then it has garnered a bit of a cult following among the gaming community.
However, despite the fact that TimeSplitters 4 has been rumoured and teased by the development studio many a time, the game seemed to be cancelled when CryTek went silent on the matter. The studio broke their silence recently and released a statement explaining that the game was still in development and that it might take longer for the game to be completed after the studio went over budget.
"For TimeSplitters 4, with ever spiralling development costs, massive teams and endless crunch we decided on a more radical development strategy. In short, the experiment was to implement the infinite monkey theorem.”
The statement continued, “With cloning being a far too expensive option, we spent all of the development budget on buying monkeys on the black market. Those seven monkeys are now sat in a room with typewriters and lots of mirrors, and we fully expect TimeSplitters 4 to be finished soon.”
Before concluding, “Rumours are that they haven't written any code but just tease the press from time to time. Those d**n monkeys.”
It is good to know that the men and women working at CryTek have a decent sense of humour and the statement was sure to have made a number of gamer’s laugh, which is what everyone needed when the spokesperson for CryTek UK explained that TimeSplitters 4 was not in development.
Rumours of the game had been doing the rounds since 2005, yet it seems that unless the monkeys can come up with code anytime soon, TimeSplitters 4 will remain just another game that has little chance of seeing the light of day.
For those of you who are still a little confused, the statement was released as a joke and there are no monkeys working on code for TimeSplitters 4. The game is simply not in development.
