Monksland eying an upset in Woodiesdiy.com Christmas Hurdle
Monksland has got a very good chance of claiming the Woodiesdiy.com Christmas Hurdle (Grade 2) at Leopardstown in Ireland on Friday, December 28, 2012. He will be up against nine other decent challengers, so things will not be easy for him at all.
He has got a very good record in races over hurdles, so his confidence level will be good at the moment. Moreover, he has never dropped out of the top-three even once in his career, which will encourage the punters to risk a lot of bets on him.
However, there are some other confident stallions lined up for action in the all important race, which is scheduled to kick off at 13:25 GMT. They will be hoping to bag a cash prize of €26,000.
The going has been described as soft at Leopardstown, as there has been a lot of rain overnight. The conditions do not look very good for racing, but the organisers will hope that showers stay away for the rest of the day.
Stamina will be the key today, as the overall distance to cover for the contestants will be 3 miles. They will have to display extreme fitness, as there is a chance of sustaining an injury under these circumstances.
Zaidpour has been given the best odds for winning the race and it will not be easy for his rivals to come anywhere closer to him. He will enter the competition with a starting price of 5 to 4, which will help him attract a lot of bets from the punters.
The W. P. Mullins’ trainee has participated in a total of 14 hurdles, winning seven of them whereas secured the runner up position on four occasions. He is carrying the winning momentum right now, so his confidence level will be extremely good.
Coming back to Monksland, he does not have a lot of experience in this format, but is not a rookie and knows how to deal with pressure.
He likes running on a wet ground, so his trainer Noel Meade will be expecting a strong run from him today. He will be accompanied by his favourite jockey, P. Carberry, who has been alongside him for the past many events.
