Monmore dominates the Bags Track Championship
The sixth and final episode of the Bags Track Championship took place on 6th December, a Midlands division match. This 6-part round serves as a pre-requisite for the Grand Finale at Monmore, to be held on the 23rd of December. The match was a tussle between the Hall Green hounds and the Monmore hounds, as the representatives from the two dominated the tracks in almost all the heats.
Victory claims by others such as Swindon, Perry Barr, Oxford and Yarmouth were not as many as were flown away by the hounds of the prior mentioned race courses.
Hall Green’s Klockwork Krai, a two-year-old black hound, won the Bags Championship 2011 Standard, overpowering five other participants. Even though P Sallis’ trainee was sent with 4/1 odds, he easily snatched the title away from the favourite of the race, Saratoga Paddy, sent in with as a 7/4 favourite.
The 275 mile Bags Championship 2011 Sprint was conquered by Monmore’s Sanantone Jack. The three-year-old, trained by C. Price, finished the distance in a mere 16.32 seconds. The £200 purse winner broke away from the second stall and ran at a very fast pace which guaranteed him leadership, almost throughout the track. Hall Green’s Ballymac Gain managed to finish third in the race.
Monmore jumped into the spotlight again its representative, Cape Maldini, who covered the distance of over 480 miles in 28.38 seconds, finished just around four fractions of a second before the runner-up, being proclaimed as the undisputed winner of the heat.
Hall Green could not put up with its losses for long as the Bags Championship 2011 b*****s was crowned to Hall Green’s Around Corners, trained by G Ballentine. The July 2008 born hound caught up with an early pace and was able to lead the final quarter of the race, crossing the wire in 28.54 seconds.
The Bags Championship 2011 Stayers, offering a prize money of £200, was taken over by Monmore’s Farloe Gambit, trained by K Billingham. This race produced the most expected and predicted outcome, as the 7/4 favourite won the race, staying in lead throughout the race.
Monmore was the highest scorer on Tuesday, the 6th of December, and has also accumulated the highest points as the event concluded. If Monmore's form remains intact by the 23rd of December, it is likely to blossom in the Grand Finale too.
