okay so since wednesday morning i've had a sore throat (it is continuing to get worse) and it hurts to swallow, and at times constantly. sometimes i have a slight headache (nothing too severe) and the fatigue i feel is like the normal fatigue i feel when i am sick, which is not extreme. i have lost my voice a little bit, and i started to cough (a dry cough that started yesterday). there are no white spots on the back of my throat and no rash present on my body. this morning i had a strep test taken and it came out negative. i'm afraid that i might have mono, any thoughts/suggestions/advice? please???? thank you

  1. When I had mono, I went to the Doctor thinking it was strep. It was negative, so I also took a mono test even thought the doctor said it wasnt mono...and sure enough it came out positive. My symptoms...

swollen eyes, head achs through out the day, very sore throat, pain in my spleen(your spleen is in the lower left of your stomach, and when you have mono only some people feel the pain. But having mono, you need to be very careful with your spleen...NO physical activity, it expands when you have mono just like a balloon and it can pop VERY easily which will cause you to bleed internally and have to go to the E.R. to get it removed.) other symptoms...i never EVER felt hungry, so i wish you good luck...and I hope you do the right thing and go get a mono test! If you come out as positive, rest as much as you can. If you dont rest alot, you WILL have it for a longer time. I had it for about 3-4 weeks and I couldnt work, I had to quit dance and be lazy(stayed home from school for 2 weeks)...even though it wasnt bad to be asked to stay home and do nothing. SLEEP!!

  2. try gargling salt water, but dont put too much salt in it. Do it about 3 times a day. This gets rid of mono.

  3. When you had the strep test, did your doctor suggest mono? You should have gotten tested for it while you were there. Go back to the doctor and find out for sure. I had mono before, but really hard to tell, because mono can mimic so many things,so you should read up on it.

  4. Exact same symptoms I had when I had mono. I would ask the doctor to do a mono test. Also I would suggest not sharing drinks or kissing anyone until you have been checked for it since those are the two easiest way to transmit them to someone else.

  5. You have all the symptoms. Go see your Dr.

  6. thats exactly what happened to me. i went in thinking it was strep, i had a headache and a severe sore throat and coughing.. and i ended up having mono. id get a mono test. they prick yout finger(not painful).if your throat looks lumpy at all you probably have it.

if youre symtons continue, you better go back in! good luck(:
