Question:

Monopoly Rules Related/Rounding Related - Need help?

So there is a house rule in monopoly to make it a little more simple by rounding to the nearest multiple of $5. So if the rent you owe is $14 you pay $15. If you owe 32$ you pay $30. THEREFORE you don't use $1 bills.. which simplify's that aspect of the game.

So if you land on Mediterrean.. which is a rent of $2 would the rent than be $5 OR $0 ...

If following the rules of rounding would it be safe to say NO u cant round to 0 or YES u can round to 0.....

This is a HUGE question that we need some other opinions on.. k thanks..

  1. you don't round up or down in Monolopy- that's why they have$1 notes. But 2 is usually rounded down to 0

  2. It would be stupid to round to zero because then a person who buys the property will get no money at all when people land on it until they add houses/hotels. I would say round to 5.

  3. well it would be easier to just use the $1 notes. but if this were the case u should always round up just to be fair.

so no you cant round to 0 otherwise it would be unfair cause theyr dont have to apy anything.

    have fun:)

  4. You could round to "0" then wiat till you but houses, that will set the rent fee away from the value of

    "0"

  5. Well if you round to 0 then you'd have about 3 or 4 properties which would cost nothing to land on (undeveloped)

Using this system, if you round up from under $2.5, then you should have to round up from under $5.

THUS, $32 charges... $35, not $30 as in your example.

    SO the rule is:

Rents are rounded up to the nearest $5. Simple and elegant.

  6. What's the point in simplifying a game? Rounding it all seems just as difficult as getting someone their change... besides, it helps build your math skills. Keep using the $1 bills.

  7. It seems that rounding up  always would be your only alternative .Great Idea though!!
