I recently got a good deal on a monster cable sub woofer cord. originally a 25 dollar or more cord, i got it for 10. Im reading the package and it sounds just like wow, these guys are really trying to sell. So do the double brass shielded, gold plated cables really do anything noticeable? and dont say "yes, in theory" or "i like them because im a geek and i think expensive things are good" if you really think its worth it, why? and dont tell me what the box said "the gold plated contacts allow excellent sound transfer!" yeah okaaaay so why is it better than regular ones?

  1. many years ago just b4 the recording of the MICHAEL JACKSON cd DANGEROUS all the wiring was ripped out of the recording studio & replaced with MONSTER CABLE.

if u got a good deal on there cable then its money well spent.

  2. Gold is slightly more (electrically) conductive than other metals, so it will give a better sound. And the monster cables come with an awesome warranty, so they are better.

  3. Honestly, I've used all different types of cables, and there's no real difference, unless you have a really keen sense of hearing... I'd only choose monster cables because they usually are thicker and use better materials to enshroud the wire, which made them a bit more durable than cheaper competitors... but only if the price was right... I would never pay full price for Monster Cable.

  4. Monster Cables are Ok (good quality/well built), but not special enough to justify spending full price on them. Far too much of the list price goes for advertizing and (very) heavy markup.  I might consider Monster for analog cables ... if they are are on sale ... but not for digital. There they are a ridiculous waste of money. But don't take my word for it see the 1st and 2nd links.

One example tells a lot. Monster HDMI cables are Chinese made, not as good as Blue Jeans Cables' US made cables (They won't work at anywhere near the same distance .. the true test on an HDMI cable) .... and much more expensive. You lose all ways if you buy Monster (3rd Link).

  5. For the same reason BOSE is "better", their marketing department is very very good at what it does, and has managed to convince the general public of the superiority of their product.    Any sufficiently heavy gauge stranded wire will produce results completely indistinguishable from Monster Cable.  A friend of mine, a mentor of sorts, once set up 2 identical systems.  The only difference was the cable.  Not even the sales rep from Monster was able to identify the system using his cable.  Much to his embarrassment, he picked the system using  the WestPenn wire as the better sounding one.  In theory, Monster should be the best.  But in practice, the range of human hearing is not capable of discerning the difference.  Only your dog knows for sure.
