Monster Yamaha Tech3 duo Crutchlow, Edwards qualify out of top ten at Motegi – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders duo Cal Crutchlow and Colin Edwards qualified 12th and 14th respectively for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Japan.
The fourth last MotoGP event will be held at the Twin Ring Motegi on October 2, 2011.
The young British rider aims to collect his third top ten finish in a row. A good finish at the Motegi circuit would make him to be the best rookie of the year. Despite of his bad health, he is working hard to achieve good results.
Crutchlow said, “I'm a bit disappointed to be back in 12th when you look how close I am to the third row. But I can't be too upset because I feel well below my physical best today. All last night I was coughing and sneezing and I've been drinking about eight
litres of water today and I still feel dehydrated.”
Considering his poor health after getting a cold, he still managed to lap good times. The Brit recorded his best time to be 0.3 seconds faster than the 2010 pole lap.
Crutchlow has no previous experience of the Motegi circuit, therefore, being new at the venue with a super fast bike is going to be tough to manage. This is a positive sign from Crutchlow.
During the final moments of the qualifying round, Crutchlow merely missed a crash, when he exited the first corner. The tyres were not up to the temperature which let him slide vigorously.
He hopes to complete the round on a positive note as he did at Motorland Aragon and claim finish in top ten positions.
The veteran American, Colin Edwards made a slow start to the session. The Texas Tornado was motivated to perform better than 2010. However, he was somehow not able to do so. Edwards also had a crash during the qualifying session.
Edwards said, “I had high hopes coming to Japan because last year I got my best grid position and my best result of the Championship at the Twin Ring Motegi. But it just hasn't worked out at all so far this weekend and I'm just not quick enough.”
