Monster Yamaha Tech3 duo Edwards, Crutchlow finish outside top five at Assen GP – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow were held off at the Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix to finish within the top five positions.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider, Colin Edwards said, “That wasn't an easy race at all and to be honest I'm happy I made it to the finish. I was feeling really good and catching Valentino and Cal when I went through the second corner and lost the front.”
The American veteran felt that his bike was sliding due to his extreme efforts to speed up. Following into other corners, he faced the same issue. It became difficult for the injured Edwards to hold his Tech3 M1 on the track with lack of grip. On every right
hand corner, it was hard for him to get in the curve and the problems added on.
With ten laps down Edwards started to feel pain in his arm. He was feeling sore ribs with no strength to ride the bike. From his injury at Catalunya, he still lacks upper body strength, for which he tried to use his arms to manoeuvre the bike around the
corners. After a courageous effort, both problems combined and it broke his confidence to continue the race.
In this situation, it was a case to bravely hang on with the pain and bring some points for the Tech3 team and Colin indeed did by finishing seventh in the Assen GP. His teammate, Crutchlow came in at 14th.
Both Tech3 riders were able hit a good start in the race. The Tech3 M1s were holding well on the track, but later Cal Crutchlow was facing an issue with the front end and he pulled over to the team garage.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider, Cal Crutchlow said, “Looking at the positives I got a fantastic start and for the first few laps I was running close to the front in a MotoGP race for the first time. I felt confident I could keep Valentino behind me but then
after about five or six laps I started struggling with the front tyre on the right side.”
The Brit rider added that with the conditions, it was easy to head into a crash and that was the last thing he needed.
