Monster Yamaha Tech3 duo Edwards, Crutchlow manage 8th and 11th at Japanese Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 duo Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow managed 8th and 11th positions at the recently held Japanese Grand Prix at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit on Sunday, October 2, 2011.
Edwards said, “What a race that was and I'm struggling to remember everything that happened because it seemed like each time I went around a corner somebody else was in the gravel! There was so much chaos it was just about surviving.”
The Texas Tornado, veteran of MotoGP was stunned to see the dramatic Japanese GP. Edwards felt that everyone was fighting to stay on the track. He added that from the start off he knew that his teammate had jump started the race.
With just five laps past the start, Casey Stoner wobbled over the bump and went wide into the run off gravel. At that moment, Edwards steamed up to push as hard as possible. With his rear hard tyre in proper temperature, Edwards recorded some good lap times.
As he started to push, it still took some while to overtake Hiroshi Aoyama, which was a little frustrating for Edwards. The Japanese rode with a style using the acceleration advantage in his RCV.
Edwards said that Aoyama stopped in the corner and hit full throttle to get an instant jump ahead. He accepted the fact that Edwards’ M1 was not perfect for the weekend so getting eight in such a situation was good enough.
Crutchlow said, “Where do you start after a race like that? I knew I'd jumped the start because directly in front of me was Simoncelli and I just let the clutch out when I saw him move. After that I just wanted to push to pick up as many places as I could
before I needed to come in for the pitlane ride through.”
The Brit was struggling to make a pass on Toni Elias. At turn 3, Elias entered the bend with hard braking and tailing Crutchlow went into gravel, avoiding a collision.
