Monster Yamaha Tech3 duo Edwards, Crutchlow struggle for pace at Sachsenring – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 duo Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow tried hard to tweak their Tech3 M1s for better pace in the practice sessions of the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland being held at Sachsenring, Germany on Saturday.
Edwards said, “I've definitely had easier Friday's than this that's for sure. I don't really know why but I never seem to get on with this track. My relationship with this track didn't exactly get the best start back in 2003 with the barbecue at the bottom
of the hill, and since then I've always found it difficult here.”
After a hard effort, the American rider finally came up with a better race setting. He termed it to be a norm to turn over the bike setup in search of a better package. The start of the practice session was tough due to lack of suitable tyre temperature.
Edwards was not able to adequately heat the front tyre on the right shoulder. He was keeping the right pace under limits to avoid any crash and save precious practice time. The MotoGP action start witnessed five riders falling on one spot, turn 11. Dani
Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi suffered the most. Following the incidents, the American rider was careful as the front tyre was not giving a good feel.
Cal Crutchlow was faster in FP2 than FP1 with a short gap of 0.4 seconds. The increased track temperatures made it a little easier for the Brit to move fast at the Sachsenring circuit.
Crutchlow said, “It doesn't look good at all on paper, but it is a lot better than it looks and I'm not too concerned. The times are pretty close and I was consistent at the end of the session when I was running a really old rear tyre after the crash.”
The Brit faced an unpredicted fall after running wide in turn 9. With an eagerness to quickly learn the track, he pushed hard on his Tech3 M1. He tried to match Casey Stoner’s race line but headed into a wide run. He got struck in a pothole at the runoff
area where he lost the balance. However, he escaped any injury and also managed to keep his left shoulder unharmed.
