Monster Yamaha Tech3 duo anticipate good results for home race - MotoGP News
The Monster Yamaha Tech3 team hopes to perform well at their home track, after riders Cal Crutchlow and Colin Edwards secured sixth and seventh place on the Le Mans grid for the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France on Sunday, May 15.
The top-14 riders were 1.5 seconds apart in the final time sheet of qualifying.
Crutchlow, while riding in his rookie season at premier class, scored his career best qualifying position on the legendry track of Bugatti in his second day at the French venue. The British rider gave his best lap time of 1: 33.804 seconds on the clock,
leaning merely 0.098 seconds off from the defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo on his factory Yamaha YZR-M1. The 25-year-old Brit was 0.2 seconds low from the first row start for the Sunday’s grid. He hopes to finish in top-10 positions for the third consecutive
time in the 2011 season.
Cal Crutchlow said, “I knew I had the raw speed to come into MotoGP and be fast, but to get a top six on the grid in just my fourth race is a brilliant achievement.”
Crutchlow went on to state that he was thankful to his Tech3 team for their hard work and continued dedication to improve the M1. The rider was able to edge ahead of his team-mate Edwards to secure sixth position.
The qualifying round was held under lower temperatures with clouds in the sky, as compared to the free practice session. The veteran, Edwards managed to put in a decent performance and secured seventh place on the grid, his best of the 2011 MotoGP season.
The Tech 3 American rider, Edwards said, “I liked looking at the timesheets in Le Mans a lot better when the Yamaha used to be on the top. I honestly can't do anything on else with the package I've got.”
The American, Tech 3 rider has claimed his two podiums out of 11 at the legendry Bugatti track and gave his best lap time of 1: 34.063 seconds on the clock, just 0.259 seconds off his British team-mate.
