Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow hospitalised during British Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow had to see the AirAsia British Grand Prix from a hospital as he saw his teammate Colin Edwards taking a third place on podium for the team.
Cal Crutchlow said, “Tweeting from my hospital bed! Just to say thanks so much for everyone's support. I am so sorry for everyone that turned up this weekend bought a flag, hat, or t-shirt to wave.”
He was hospitalised in John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, immediately after the crash. The MotoGP rookie in Tech3 team crashed in qualify practice session soon after he started to make progress. He fell early in the session while entering the second corner.
According to the stats, the tyre temperature was not warm enough to enhance the grip on tarmac.
The accident resulted in a fractured collarbone from three places. Doctors have advised a surgery for his fixture, but it is not yet decided when the operation will take place. It is also yet to be decided whether he stays at Oxford or will be moved to Manchester
for further medical examination by a special surgeon, who treated his last shoulder injury.
The Brit explained the incident and said, “I crashed with no heat in rear tyre, same as Vale last year, Colin last week. It happens to the best of them. My collarbone is in 3 pieces and I have MRI on neck as the docs think it's broke, but I am fine! I appreciate
all the support.”
The sole Brit rider had been riding well throughout the weekend and ranked in top six positions in all three free practice sessions. Crutchlow was certain to finish the race with decent points for Tech3 team and impress his home crowd, but he could not do
so. He now anticipates his comeback soon with confidence as the injury heals.
On the positive side, his Tech3 teammate Colin Edwards stood on MotoGP podium and in Moto2 class, Bradley Smith also earned a podium place. Both Tech3 teammates are expected to race together in the seventh race of the 2011 season in Assen, Netherlands.
