Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow manages best career finish in Catalunya – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow scored his best finish of MotoGP career at the Gran Premio Aperol de Catalunya on Sunday by managing a seventh position.
Meanwhile, Colin Edwards missed the race after undergoing a successful surgery on his fractured collarbone.
Edwards’ collarbone was fractured during the second free practice session for Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya. Despite of his eagerness to race at Barcelona, doctors declared him unfit for the race.
The British Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow was able to score his best MotoGP career finish to date. Being a rookie in premier class, it was a promising finish for the sole Brit in the category.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider, Cal Crutchlow said, “That's my best result in MotoGP and of course I'm happy, but I'd rather have got a result like that in a more entertaining race. It was just a test of concentration for most of the race once I'd passed Nicky
and it was quite lonely.”
Crutchlow was placed sixth on the starting grid for the Catalunya GP. After the start, he dropped to eighth place in the race and remained behind Ducati Team riders, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden. After a short run, he closed the gap, passed ahead of
Nicky Hayden, and sustained his position to the finish line.
The American veteran, Colin Edwards is expected to race at the sixth round of the 2011 MotoGP season. Edwards’ doctors advised him not to race at the Catalan GP in order to prevent any further damage.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider, Colin Edwards said, “I'm a little bit disappointed with the decision not to let me ride because while it's not a lifelong ambition never to miss a MotoGP race, it was a run I was pretty proud of. I understand the decision but
my shoulder feels great.”
He also added that the doctor had conducted a successful surgery on his collarbone and it was expected to heal soon.
Cal Crutchlow and Colin Edwards are expected to race together at the AirAsia British Grand Prix. Crutchlow is now ranked in top ten of the championship points table, which makes it a perfect entry for the Brit going into his home event.
