Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow manages ninth position at Motorland Aragon – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow managed a ninth position at Motorland Aragon Grand Prix held on Sunday, September 18, 2011.
The Brit’s Tech3 teammate Colin Edwards finished at 13th position in the third Spanish event of the 2011 MotoGP season which was also his 150th grand prix start.
Crutchlow said, “I'm really pleased with how the race went today because I was back inside the top and having an enjoyable fight with two of the best riders on the grid, who have had a lot of success in Grand Prix racing.”
The Brit explained his race start as he lost a few positions in the beginning. Crutchlow claims that he could have challenged Alvaro Bautista and Nicky Hayden in the race.
During a lap, he went off the track and merely missed a crash while breaking to lock his front tyre. On the other side, he was pleased with the race setup of his Tech3 M1. MotoGP rookie, Crutchlow was able to cover the time gap in corners which he lost in
the straights. The Yamaha is strong under braking and corner handling.
Later in the race, he was closely tangled up with Valentino Rossi and Hiroshi Aoyama. He further added that it was hard but good to hold off Rossi for long time. Including Aoyama, it was a kind of success to lead the much-experienced riders’ duo to the end
of the race.
If Rossi or Aoyama had the lead for final lap, it would have been difficult for the Crutchlow to finish ninth. Although it was a tough race day but coming ninth on an unknown circuit is an achievement. While ending the Aragon weekend on a positive note,
he will be looking forward to continue his good run in the next races.
Texas Tornado modified his Tech3 M1 setup but could not achieve desired results in his 150th GP start.
Edwards said, “That certainly wasn't a great way to celebrate my 150th race in MotoGP. We tried to get the bike right all weekend but we were pretty much chasing our tails the whole time. We were trying to improve the rear grip to compensate for the speed
we lose on the straight.”
Considering the last two races, they have been a disappointment. Heading towards the Japanese GP, the Tech3 crew will try to find something to recover.
