Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow pulled out of Italian GP fearing crash – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow has said that he lacked a good feel from his Tech3 M1 and therefore he decided to pull out of the Italian Grand Prix over the weekend.
Crutchlow said, “Right from the first lap I didn't have any confidence or feeling with the front-end and I kept running wide. I just didn't want to crash with the Silverstone shoulder injury at the back of my mind, so I felt the safest option was to pull
into the pits.”
The Brit was in pursuit for sixth place, as he struggled to fight with his fellow riders since his M1 was not in a condition to speed up. He was feeling no traction in his bike and decided to pull out.
Herve Poncharal, Tech3 Team Manager expressed his views about the incident. He said that both the team riders made similar tyre choice for the race day- hard slicks at front and soft tyres on rear. They had a good start in the race until Crutchlow decided
to pull out of the race.
Poncharal said, “This is the second time in successive races that he has stopped and in Assen we could clearly see there was a problem. But his tyre choice was the same as Colin, so I would have expected him to stay out considering where he was in the race.”
Poncharal added that the Brit needs to get some experience on his Tech3 M1 and was not familiar with the Mugello circuit. The team manager is optimistic to leave the Mugello incident behind and prepare for the German Grand Prix. The team is looking forward
to see Crutchlow’s full potential at the Sachsenring circuit.
The Frenchman commented on Colin Edwards’ race setup. He said that Edwards was also not riding with the exact setup for the race day, but still he made it to the ninth place with seven points. Despite tough conditions, the American rider did a great job
at Mugello.
Cal Crutchlow also stated on his Twitter page that he regretted his decision at Mugello. He was extremely annoyed after putting a deliberate end to his race day.
