Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow qualifies in sixth position for Catalunya GP – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow will be placed at sixth position to start the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
The Brit gave his best lap time of 1:43.202 seconds in the final qualifying session of the grand prix.
Both Tech3 riders had a different luck for the fifth round of the 2011 MotoGP season. Where Crutchlow was able to perform well for the race, his teammate Colin Edwards was hospitalised after he got his collarbone fractured in an accident during the second
free practice session.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team Manager, Herve Poncharal said, “Although he was in quite a lot of pain yesterday, the only positive is that the injury was a clean break without any complications, so we are confident the recovery will be a quick process and we
will see Colin back on track very soon.”
The surgery was successfully conducted to insert a titanium plate and screws to fix his broken collarbone.
The American rider will be kept under observation for about two days. The injury has ended his streak of 141 consecutive race starts since the 2003 season.
While Edwards waits to get back in racing conditions as soon as possible, his teammate Cal Crutchlow will be racing this Sunday at the Montmelo Circuit. The sole British rider in premier class has shown improvements.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider, Cal Crutchlow said, “I'm happy enough to be on the second row of the grid again because this is another track I've come to with zero experience and I've shown my raw speed and proved a few people wrong. Ben (Spies) was fifth here
last year and I was trying to get that one place higher up to equal it, but I can't be disappointed with sixth on the grid.”
He was trying to improve the side grip of the bike during his run but he needs to do more in order to improve the rear traction.
