Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow to miss British Grand Prix after QP crash – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow will miss out on his home event following a crash in qualifying practice session for the upcoming AirAsia British Grand Prix.
After the crash, he was diagnosed with a fractured collarbone. Meanwhile, his teammate Colin Edwards will race at Silverstone after recovering from a same injury he suffered during FP2 at Catalunya.
The sole British rider in MotoGP, Cal Crutchlow got unlucky to participate in his most awaited event. He rode successful in all free practice sessions and stood in top six slots all the time. Crutchlow was able to impress his home crowd with neat performance
aboard his Yamaha YZR-M1.
Following into qualifying round for Sunday’s race, Crutchlow started his run. In his third lap while entering the second corner, he had a severe fall and hammered his shoulder into asphalt. The Brit was instantly moved to the Silverstone medical centre and
was diagnosed with a fractured collarbone, which confirmed his absence from the British Grand Prix. Now he has two weeks to recover for the Assen GP, Netherlands.
Crutchlow’s teammate, Colin Edwards had a similar fracture during second free practice session of the Catalan GP. He was operated upon and advised to miss the second Spanish event in Barcelona. With a gap of one week after his surgery, he was declared to
be fit for British Grand Prix. Initially he was feeling hard to ride and stood low in FP time sheets, but in QP, he was better with eighth place on the starting grid.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider, Colin Edwards said, “My shoulder feels pretty much perfect but my ribs are killing me and that's the biggest issue at the moment. I feel worse physically than I did yesterday but when I crashed at Catalunya I pulled some of the
muscle away from my ribs and I'm finding it hard to do anything.”
Edwards explained that he still feels pains in his ribs while breathing. He also lacks the power to quickly move the bike.
Monster Yamaha Tech3, Team Manager, Herve Poncharal said, “Cal's injury is a very big disappointment and I feel really sorry for him because he was desperate to do well in his home race here at Silverstone.”
Monster Yamaha Tech3 team will again race with a single rider this weekend. Crutchlow was expected to fight for a decent finish but he will miss out on the opportunity.
