Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow undergoes surgery – MotoGP news
Cal Crutchlow of Monster Yamaha Tech3 team recently went through a surgery to resolve his arm pumping issue.

The 2009 World Supersport champion got his surgery done at Policlinico di Modena. His surgery was supervised by Dr. Antonio Landi.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 also has a rider facing physical fitness issues including other MotoGP riders. Previously Cal Crutchlow had his little finger shredded during the last test session at the Losail circuit just before the season opener race at Qatar.
Cal Crutchlow has been facing an arm pump issue during the first two rounds of the 2011 season. It is a common physical stress faced by the riders, as high body endurance is required to compete in the top class. With the Brit’s diagnosis, his right
arm muscles were blocking the nerves creating numbness in arm and hand while riding his Yamaha in the races.
He had a supportive finish at 11th place in the inaugural race of the 2011 season at Losail, Qatar; despite having a severe damaged little finger on his left hand. In the second race Gran Premio bwin de Espana, Crutchlow made good eighth
place finish in wet and greasy track conditions. The Spanish Grand Prix was had a fall and retired due to the wet track.
Just like Dani Pedrosa, Crutchlow also availed the long break between the races and decided to go for a surgery. By the next event in calendar Portuguese Grand Prix at May 1, he is expected to be fit for racing.
“Since the start of the year I've had a problem with my arm muscles and nerves and my hand went numb when I was riding. It started in Sepang in testing and it occurs each time I ride the bike,” said Crutchlow.
Crutchlow will be freed from the stitches in 12 days and the rider is confident to be set for the free practice session at Estoril circuit, April 29.
Herve Poncharal, the Tech3 Team Manager said, “To have surgery once the season has started is always a worry, but I think Cal made the right decision as we have this long break now before the next race in Portugal. If he didn't have the operation the
problem could get bigger and bigger, and you need to be at 100 per cent to ride in MotoGP and be competitive.”
Marco Melandri also had same sort of arm issue in 2004, having surgery between two back to back races and scored a podium in the Assen race. In Crutchlow’s case, the rider has much more time to recover.
Other riders like Dani Pedrosa also had his surgery done at Madrid couple of days back. Ducati rider Rossi is also still suffering from his 2010 shoulder injury and is struggling to recover.
