Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards declared fit for British Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards has been declared fit for the upcoming sixth round of MotoGP 2011 season, the AirAsia British Grand Prix which is taking place on June 12, 2011 at the Silverstone circuit.
Edwards missed the fifth round, Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya due to a fractured collarbone.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider, Colin Edwards said, “I was confident I would get through the medical and now I'm just looking forward to the weekend and being back on track with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team.”
The American veteran was injured during the second free practice session ahead of the Catalan GP. In the crash, he broke his right collarbone and immediately underwent a surgery in which titanium plates were inserted in his collar to heal the injury. Although
he was resting following his surgery, yet he was present with the team during the Catalunya event.
Edwards commented on his injury and said, “The shoulder feels fantastic and I can't thank Dr Xavier Mir and his staff enough because without them I wouldn't be in a position to even consider riding. I know it is not going to be an easy weekend because there
are some fast changes of direction and hard braking at Silverstone, but I'm confident I can do a good job and bring home some points for the Team.”
Despite his injury, Edwards joined the team at the Montmelo circuit. Although he stayed out of the event, he now wants to make his comeback a week after the surgery took place. Missing the Catalunya event also ended the American rider’s uninterrupted run
of 141 consecutive race starts since 2003.
After a clearance from the doctors, Edwards will join his teammate Cal Crutchlow to complete the Tech3 pair in the event. The sole British rider in premier class, Crutchlow is pleased to race in the most awaited race for him on his home ground. Let’s see
how things shape up when the free practice sessions of the British Grand Prix are contested on Friday, June 10, 2011.
