Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards fifth in dramatic Iveco Australian Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards finished the Iveco Australian Grand Prix in fifth place.
Though the race was toughened by short pour downs, but the Texas Tornado was riding error free.
Edwards made a start from ninth position of the grid just behind factory Honda rider Dani Pedrosa in eighth.
As he completed the first lap he was in eighth position, while judging the wind blows. The heavy wind flow was affecting the riders from delivering their peak performance.
Edwards said, “That was all about surviving because the conditions might have looked great on TV with the sun shining but the wind was horrendous. We know the wind plays a big part here normally but today it seemed particularly bad and it was impossible
to judge when a gust was going to hit you from one lap to the next.”
The American rider paced up to get seventh position, as the rain struck the racetrack. The track section from Lukey Heights to final bend was wet with only three laps on the countdown.
Edwards claimed, “I got into a pretty good rhythm and I was happy to be running a consistent pace in eighth when all the late chaos happened.”
However, he did not turn to the pit-lane for a wet setup Tech3 M1 and continued his race on slicks.  He added that a pour down is not a good sign in the race. As the track was partially wet, so he decided to stay on the same bike.
He tended to push hard as much as possible, but the rain asked for no error. The American veteran was riding safest on the track.
Under this type of situation it is good to finish in fifth place where other riders crashed and some still stood very fast.
Currently, he is placed on ninth position in the world championship behind compatriot Nicky Hayden of Ducati.
At the end, he also paid his congratulations to Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner for winning the 2011 MotoGP World Championship. He also praised his performance through the season, adding that he has done a great job and well deserves the title.
