Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards finishes 7th at Czech Republic GP – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards finished seventh in the Cardion AB Grand Prix at Brno, Czech Republic.
On the other side, his teammate Cal Crutchlow crashed in the race after a tough fight of overtaking Hector Barbera.
Edwards said, “I said yesterday that if I finished in the same position that I started I would be pretty happy. I guess I am pretty happy, but it was not an easy race. I know I gave it my absolute maximum out there, but eighth position was the best I could.”
Edwards explained his situation on the race day. He said he was lacking grip in the warm up round and therefore to sort the grip issue, the Tech3 crew made some geometric changes to Edwards’s M1 and that made it considerably better. The grip was increased
and it gave a better feel. However, the Texan could not improve his lap times even after minor changes.
His lap times were almost identical throughout the race. At one point, he expected to break through but the traction issue still did not let him to do so. He had a lot of tyre spin at the rear which slowed him on the corner exit.
Many times in the race Edwards was close on the tail of his compatriot, Nicky Hayden. Edwards was pushing hard but he could not get close enough to him. As Hayden was also lapping on the same times so it was hard for Edwards to make a pass over him.
Crutchlow said, “Nobody is more disappointed than me with what happened because another crash is the last thing I needed. I am currently having a difficult run of races but all I can do is getting my head down, work hard with my crew and try and put things
right in the future.”
Including the previous races and this one as well, the Brit rider has been facing lack of grip on the front end of his Tech3 M1.
After a lot of work, there have been no improvements. Now the Tech3 team will work to sort out the issue during the post race MotoGP test at Brno. Despite of his bad end at Brno, he is determined to score good results at the upcoming Indianapolis GP.
