Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards finishes seventh in Indianapolis Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards completed his home event, the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix in seventh place.
The Texan Tornado hit a great start but the first corner traffic clot dropped him to eighth position in the race.
Edwards said, “I thought I got a fantastic start but the problem is the Yamaha is lacking a bit of grunt. I needed Fred Flintstone behind giving me a push to go faster, so I had a few people come by me on the run to the first corner.”
After the first corner he was found battling with Alvaro Bautista, Ben Spies and Valentino Rossi.
Edwards added, “The first few laps I felt I could go faster but with Bautista sitting in front of me, I'd get close and then coming out of the corner he would just grab a few metres on me. In the twisty stuff at the end of the lap I was gaining it all back
and at the last corner I almost ran into him.”
After the twisty section, Bautista regained the closed gap while leaving Edwards to do the same work in the rest of the lap. After mid race Bautista adapted his style according to the conditions and moved on well in the race.
At some points Edwards was close enough to overtake the Spaniard but in a lap Edwards lost his front end which warned him to hold his pace for the rest of the race.
After he merely missed the crash he rode to finish in the seventh place. He further expressed that his front tyre almost lost the grip. Meanwhile every other rider was having the same problem on different levels.
The Texan rider qualified and finished the race as the top satellite rider. His seventh place finish earned him nine points. With a top ten finish and valuable points he also stepped up in the world championship standings.
However, it was a worth race day after some hard work throughout the weekend. With increase confidence he aims to challenge for top six finishes at Misano.
