Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards manages podium finish at British GP – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards scored third place on the podium at the AirAsia British Grand Prix on Sunday.
Despite his injured ribs and recent surgery just before the Catalan GP, Edwards fought bravely in difficult wet conditions.
It was a long winless race era since his last second place podium finish in the 2009 British Grand Prix held at Donington Park. Edwards collected his first podium of the 2011 season and 12th in MotoGP career.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider, Colin Edwards said, “That was an unbelievable race and to finish on the podium feels amazing. I was happy to qualify eighth but never in a million years did I think I'd be on the podium just over a week after breaking my collarbone.”
Colin Edwards was riding behind compatriot Ben Spies aboard his factory Yamaha YZR-M1. Edwards made a pass over Spies and after short while Spies crashed to retire from the race. Meanwhile the front riders’ squad, Dovizioso, Lorenzo and Marco Simoncelli
were fighting for a second place finish.
A lap after Ben Spies’ accident, Jorge Lorenzo also crashed following Dovizioso leaving empty space for Marco Simoncelli. The Italian was also victimised by wet conditions and Colin Edwards was the lucky man to complete the race in painful and nerve wrecking
third place.
At last, the American veteran was grateful to his medical team which performed a successful surgery and made him able to participate just after a week.
He said, “I need to thank Dr Xavier Mir for the repair job he did on my shoulder and also my guys at Monster Yamaha Tech 3 because they gave me a phenomenal bike today. My shoulder felt great and it was the muscle damage around my ribs that caused me the
most pain.”
He also added that the wet conditions were helpful for his physical conditions as the dry conditions would have tortured him more. He said tried to stay focused and errorless. He also said that the conditions were very bad and the margin to push was minimal.
