Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards manages tenth place finish at Sachsenring – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards came tenth at 2011 MotoGP German Grand Prix after a tough fight at Sachsenring.
Despite of a good race position on the starting grid he was not able to maintain his pace in the race.
Tech3 rider, Colin Edwards said, “That was a difficult race because it was one of those where you can see a few places up for grabs in front of you but you can't do anything to try moving forward. I was with Valentino, Nicky and Alvaro for pretty much the
whole race, but it didn't matter what I did or tried, I couldn't get close enough to try and pass them.”
He added, “One tenth around this track feels like a million because it is so short, but it felt like I was on a bungee rope the whole time.”
The American explained his condition in the race as he was lacking grip on the left shoulder of the tyres. As the track entered the left turning section, the riders pack ahead opened the gap from him. The riders pack included Alvaro Bautista of Rizla Suzuki
and the Ducati duo, Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi.
Meanwhile as the stretch opened between him and riders ahead, he managed to cover the gap in the second last corner at the bottom of waterfall bend. The turn 12 helped to close the gap and the last corner was very handy to get on the tail of the riders’
trio.
The process of losing the top riders and catching them under braking continued throughout the race. It was not a pleasant feeling for Edwards, but his M1 was very stable under braking and taking right corners.
As the race continued, Edwards faced some more issues to take care of which hampered his pace. While he was cornering in the second turn, he faced an under steer even being off the gas. After that rear end slide, the American rider was low on traction and
experienced vibration in his M1.
Recalling the past races at the venue, he was happy to complete the race and finish tenth without any incident. With the US Grand Prix taking place this weekend, he is keen to hit Laguna Seca for his home event.
