Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards still suffering from ribcage pain – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 veteran Colin Edwards is still suffering from a ribcage pain he picked up after an accident in the Catalan MotoGP event earlier in the 2011 season.
Soon after his surgery, he made a successive run at Silverstone and scored third place on podium. Good thing for Edwards was that the race was held under wet conditions, which reduces the effort to manoeuvre the bike.
Edwards said, “My ribs are still sore from Assen, and I'm expecting them to cause me a few problems this weekend because Mugello has a lot of fast changes of direction. That's the point where I suffer the most, because I don't have 100 per cent strength
in my upper body.”
The recent event at Assen was also held in partial wet conditions which stressed his ribs and the lack of grip added the difficulty for him. Now the American veteran is feeling unfit due to the pain. The next round is due at Mugello in Italy, the circuit
which consists of many high-speed chicanes. This speedy change in directions will be an issue for Edwards to stay on his Tech3 M1.
Edwards further said, “I am looking forward to getting to Italy and seeing all the Italian fans – I've loved racing in Italy right from my World Superbike career, and the atmosphere at Mugello is always special. The first job will be checking the new surface.”
Edwards has learnt that the new surface at the Mugello circuit is very helpful for traction. Along with this good news, the team has to work on the bike for better race settings to cope up with the circuit demand.
The American also added that the team is working very hard to improve the package and practically the bike holds that potential. It is also expected that the Italian event will be held in better track conditions.
The last two events, Silverstone and Assen have seen rain interruptions and now Edwards is looking forward to get in action at Mugello in dry conditions. Let’s see how he fares in it.
