Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards to run a BMW-Suter machine in 2012 season – MotoGP news
Colin Edwards of Monster Yamaha Tech3 has revealed his machine for the 2012 MotoGP season.
The Texan veteran will be riding a BMW powered Suter machine for Forward Racing in the next season.
The Forward Racing team will participate in the premier class season under Claiming Rule Team (CRT) regulations.  The CRTs will have plenty of relaxations over present Motorcycle Sports Manufacturer’s Association (MSMA) teams.
While joking with the media Edwards said, “At the beginning I just said we’d run a Yamaha engine and a Tech 3 chassis because that was my way of putting some pressure on some guys, and they obviously didn’t care what I thought because they said no!”
This season will end the era for 800cc power plants. For the 2012 season it will mark the return of 1000cc prototypes that have been idled for last three seasons.
The comeback of the bigger displacement engines has enhanced the importance of the experienced riders. Edwards is one of the few riders, who have raced aboard a 990cc machine that is closest sibling to the 1000cc machines.
Edwards have a vast experience of the big displacement engines. He knows his way to develop a bigger machine, especially for a team that is new to the premier class, he is an asset.
Texas Tornado added, “It will be a BMW/Suter which is what I signed for in the beginning, and I’m happy to be working with those guys. We’ll have to go out there and work and test. It’s probably not going to be competitive in the first race, maybe not in
the last race, but we’ll work extremely hard to build it.”
The Yamaha veteran, Edwards fully supports the CRT concept which will enlarge the image of the premier class and take it to next level.
For Edwards it will be an adventure, while riding with a new born competitor in MotoGP. The premier class of the motorcycle racing holds a vision for technology and development.
The fans of the MotoGP like to see the strong competition and with the entry of new teams it will get more interesting, such as Moto2 class.
