Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards took fourth seat in FP1 at Phillip Island – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards took fourth seat in the FP1 at the Phillip Island.
The Texas Tornado was impressive on the track in the sunny conditions.
The Iveco Australian Grand Prix is the 16th MotoGP event of the season and Edwards likes to race on the Phillip Island track. He has scored impressive results at the venue. He has successfully finished above ninth position except
one start.
Edwards said, “This morning went brilliantly and I came out of the gate really fast and flying. I felt good on the bike but this afternoon I just couldn't get close to the pace I had this morning. I had really good grip from the front tyre this morning but
when the temperature started to come up a little bit the track started to feel a bit greasy.”
Edwards followed Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo and Marco Simoncelli in the morning’s session. The American’s teammate was not able to hop in top ten places but improved one place in FP2.
Edwards added, “So for this afternoon we switched to the hard compound front tyre to see what the difference was and there is a really fine line between what does and doesn't work around this track.”
For the first practice day, he was testing the machine to search for a proper setup. The American rider took soft tyres for the morning session. That choice made him to rank fourth in the FP1.
For the afternoon session, he opted to ride with hard tyres and made some minor changes in the setup. The changes did not help him to improve his lap times rather he dropped to a lower seat in the time charts.
He also said that he was not comfortable to ride on the changed setup. The track was bumpy and it felt very hard to ride with hard compound slicks.
The team will return to the morning setup for the second practice day. The main goal is to improve the setup to enhance the feel from front end.
