Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders, Edwards and Crutchlow fall at French GP - MotoGP News
The Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow both fell during the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France held at Le Mans on Sunday, May 15.
The only British rider in the premier class, Crutchlow was the first to fall from ninth place putting an end to his race weekend, in which he strongly qualified for a sixth place on the starting grid. The MotoGP rookie was very disappointed, as after his
fall during the race was a turn-around moment which could give Crutchlow a sixth place finish. Before his fall the Brit was engaged in a fight with Ben Spies for sixth position in the race.
Crutchlow also claimed that Spies was an easy task to pass ahead but all that went to vain when he had a little mistake at Turn-6, as he hit the side line of the track which lifted his bike from front with no ground contact. Cal fell on the side of his bike
ending his participation in the event for good.
Cal said, “It is disappointing because I had the pace to get another top eight, but these things can happen when you're pushing so hard in a competitive class like MotoGP. I managed to get back on the bike but there was a problem with the throttle, so it
was impossible for me to carry on.”
The premier class rookie was performing well all weekend from free practices to qualifiers and was desperate to finish in a good place to score some decent points for Tech3 and their sponsors Monster Energy.
As Crutchlow ended his day, his team-mate Colin Edwards gave a run to score a three point finish at 13th place on his damaged M1. Edwards was happy to start from a decent grid position, when the riders entered the first corner it was a usual struggle
for position. It was the moment when the American rider saw a clean path in front of him, closing on Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) ahead of him were Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing) and Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda).
Colin said, “When I crashed it didn't feel like I was doing anything too stupid. I was on the same line and I didn't get in there too hot. Normally you get a bit of warning when the front is going to tuck, but I had nothing.
Edwards’ sight was on the next bend ahead when he slipped and broke a foot-peg, making a return to his garage. He got back on track scoring some valuable points which can prove essential in the end of the season.
