Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders Crutchlow, Edwards display strong run on first day at Brno – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders Cal Crutchlow and Colin Edwards managed a positive first day at the Brno race weekend for the Cardion AB Grand Prix.
Crutchlow said, “Today was a positive day and we made a good improvement with the bike and I feel like the front-end feeling I've been missing in the last few races is definitely better. We tried a new handlebar position, bringing them closer to me and it
was a positive step.”
The Brit is not yet satisfied with his Tech3 setup and feels the need of further improvement in his race settings. Crutchlow was able to lap fast enough to rank him in fifth place but a mistake in the last lap dropped him to again to ninth position. An errorless
lap could have ranked him in the top seven slots.
He further said that Rossi and Bautista closed on him by the end of the session. He feels if he rides with confidence, he can score a seventh place on the race day.
This time the Brit is familiar with the circuit as he has rode here in WSBK rounds. He used his previous experience of the venue to give fast lap times. This has helped him to move ahead of other experienced MotoGP riders.
He also said that in the last few rounds, he pushed hard with less knowledge about circuits that prevented him from performing well. Now at Brno he is more confident with his Tech3 M1.
In the Tech3 camp, Colin Edwards was fighting to sort his rear end issue. The Texan was low on traction at the rear end of his Tech3 M1.
Edwards said, “Today has been a bit of a struggle to be honest and I was hoping to be a bit higher up the timesheets than 12th. We are working hard to find a solution but right now we're still missing something in the set up of the bike that allows me to
push at a level I feel comfortable and confident at.”
Due to the traction issue, he is running vigorously wide in the corners and the problem also has had its impact on the front-end feel. This has caused him to lose a lot of time on his laps. Let’s see how both of the Monster Yamaha riders fare in the Brno
race weekend.
