Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders Edwards, Crutchlow qualify in sixth and seventh places for Italian GP
Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders, Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow made an effort to qualify in sixth and seventh places for Sunday’s Gran Premio d’Italia TIM being held at the Mugello circuit.
The Tech3 duo was struggling hard to make their place in the top set of riders. Both riders are racing with broken collarbones and are cautious to avoid any mishaps in any case.
Edwards said, “That's my best qualifying result of the season and I'm really happy with that. The start of the session was really tricky because we all went out on slicks but there were parts of the track that were still damp. Your brain is telling you it
is raining but you go out and push on slick tyres and that can be a bit unnerving.”
After pace hampering runs on the wet tarmac, the circuit dried and the American rider was able to push his M1 a little further.
At the start of the session, Edwards chose soft compound tyres. The soft slicks were not coping with wet and the front was losing traction more than expected. Edwards then chose a hard one for the front and a soft one for rear. This combination gave him
the run to mark his season’s best qualifying position.
The qualify practice session faced a heavy downpour after 20 minutes of run. In the initial run, local boy Andrea Dovizioso topped the time sheet. Later his compatriot Marco Simoncelli came fastest to top the time charts. Shortly after both Italian riders,
the Repsol Honda idol Casey Stoner set the benchmark for fellow riders.
Crutchlow said, “We made a big step with the feeling from the front-end this morning and I was a second faster this afternoon. The changes we made gave me more feeling but I still feel very much on the limit with corner entry and mid-corner.”
Crutchlow is looking to sort the riding feel of his M1. Let’s see how he fares on the raceday.
