Monster Yamaha Tech3 rookie Cal Crutchlow geared up for Phillip Island – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow is fully geared up for the Phillip Island event, the Iveco Australian Grand Prix scheduled for October 16, 2011.
This will mark the 16th MotoGP event leaving only two rounds Sepang and Valencia to end the season.
Crutchlow said, “I've been really excited about this weekend for a while now because Phillip Island is an awesome track and I can't wait to get a taste of what it feels like to ride a MotoGP bike on it.”
The British rookie in MotoGP is enthused to race on the circuit which he has experienced earlier in his racing career. He has raced at Supersport category 600cc machine at the Australian venue.
In the last MotoGP event at Twin Ring Motegi, he was able to finish in 11th position three places down from his teammate Colin Edwards.
The track consists of a layout that demands a technical strength of the rider. The bike tends to slide very much in the corners. Some riders suggest that the circuit is made to ride aggressively.
Crutchlow added, “I've ridden a Supersport 600 and World Superbike machine there and had some good performances, so I'm hoping it will be the same this weekend. I've been told to expect some unpredictable weather this weekend, which will feel strange because
normally when I'm here it is really hot and sunny in February.”
Previously in the season he lost his consistency due a front end issue. In some races, he voluntarily stepped out of the races to avoid crashes. He lost confidence over his Tech3 M1 when he crashed at Silverstone and fractured his collarbone.
However, the conditions welcome the MotoGP paddock, it will be the same for every rider. He is focusing on to maintain his point scoring run in the upcoming event. His consistency has moved him from 15th place to 13th place
in the world championship. It will be his fifth race to score points as he aims to finish in top ten positions.
Now he feels more confident with his consistency and while coming to Phillip Island, he has no worries to learn the circuit.
