Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Colin Edwards sustains dislocated shoulder from Sepang crash – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards had a dislocated should from the crash that took Marco Simoncelli’s life at the Sepang International Circuit.
Poncharal shared his views with Motorcyclenews.com and said, “The pain was very bad but Colin was only thinking about Marco and how he was. I’m sure he realises there was nothing he could have done. You can see the replays that he did his best to turn away
from Marco, but it was unavoidable.”
Shortly after the start of the Malaysian Grand Prix, Simoncelli had a low side fall in second lap and tracked in front of Edwards and Valentino Rossi of the Ducati Team.
The young Italian trying to regain control on his RC212V went to the inside of the track, where Edwards and Rossi were exiting from turn 11. The speed exit from the turn left both riders with no choice but to slam into Super Sic’s bike.
The Texan rider smashed into Simoncelli’s bike, experiencing a hard fall that dislocated his left shoulder.
As Edwards hit the hanging Italian on his machine, Simoncelli fell off. The American Tech3 rider’s bike ran over Simoncelli, leaving him with several injuries on head, neck and chest region.
Edwards watched the Italian rider lying unconscious on the tarmac, while he could barely move due to the pain in shoulder. Rossi did lose control and ran off into the trackside, but regained his control avoiding any crash.
After the fatal incident, the Tech3 team released a statement explaining the physical conditions of Edwards. The team also grieved on the loss of a rising MotoGP star.
A Tech3 team statement read as, “Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Colin Edwards was involved in the second lap incident and he suffered a dislocated left shoulder. The American has left the Sepang International Circuit to begin his recovery at home in America
and his thoughts and prayers are with Simoncelli and the Gresini Honda family.”
The Tech3 team and MotoGP fans loved Simoncelli as a rider and as an off track star. He was famous in Italy for having a rock star look and a passion to win.
