Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Colin Edwards to miss season finale at Valencia – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards will not be able to participate in the season’s final event taking place at Valencia, Spain.
Due to a dislocated shoulder after a crash at Sepang, Edwards is unfit for the Spanish GP.
Edwards said, “Firstly, I want to thank everybody for all their messages of support since Sunday. The support and love has been overwhelming and it has been a great comfort to me at this difficult time. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Marco
and I will miss him a lot, as will the entire MotoGP family.”
The Texan rider sustained a dislocated shoulder during the crash at Malaysian GP. The crash was held between Honda Gresini’s Marco Simoncelli, Edwards and Valentino Rossi of Ducati Team.
Super Sic passed away in the accident and Edwards had a hard fall. Rossi was fortunate to escape the accident without any injury and fall. Though he lost control of his bike but managed to regain it.
The young Italian was taken to Clinica Mobile for medical assistance. Simoncelli had suffered from severe injuries at head, neck and chest region.
At last, he was declared dead within an hour of the incident. Simoncelli’s final rites were held at his hometown in Italy.
Texas Tornado added, “I watched Marco's funeral yesterday and I really wish I could have been there. I wanted to go but unfortunately my injuries meant I was unable to travel. I know Valentino spoke to Marco's family on my behalf and I thank him for that.”
The American veteran commented on the burial ceremony of Simoncelli that it was a great tribute to the rising MotoGP star.
Edwards also wanted to attend the funeral but the severity of the injury did not let him. He also wished to race at Valencia but the injuries will not allow him to race. Edwards will undergo a surgery on his left arm. The cartilage has been damaged on his
left shoulder bone that has multiple fragment fractures.
The surgery will be done to replace the cartilage on the bone. There has been no damage to the nerves. Following the surgery procedure, it will take about four weeks to get back in perfect condition.
