Monster Yamaha rider Colin Edwards hopeful of 2012 deal with Moto2 team Forward Racing – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards is expecting a deal for the 2012 season from Moto2 team Forward Racing.
The Texan rider is coming to end of his contract with the Tech3 squad by the end of the 2011 season.
Edwards said, “Unless you’re on a top factory bike in MotoGP then it is an uphill battle anyway. Working with Suter would also be pretty interesting. I’ve never worked with him directly but I think with the ability to work and develop new stuff is pretty
exciting. To develop stuff like stiffness and geometry is what I like to do.”
Looking at the Marc VDS bike performance, Edwards was not disappointed from the performance laid out by Mika Kallio. During the last test session at Mugello, Marc VDS bike was six seconds apart from Stoner’s 800cc RC212V. Now at Brno test, Kallio lapped
with improved pace and stood about three seconds apart from Casey Stoner aboard RC213V.
Reportedly, the veteran is known to be engaged in talks with Forward Racing team. The Moto2 team is expected to step up from mid category to MotoGP class for the 2012 season. The American rider may ride a BMW S1000RR powered bike with Suter chassis in the
next season.
Considering the BMW-powered Suter ride, he commented that on some tracks the bike will have benefit of staying close to other factory machines. Being on an 800cc, sometimes the riders are not able to open full throttle.
Other rumour is that Edwards has also been considering getting a deal with BMW World Superbike team.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 team boss, Herve Poncharal said, “I believed that this season was going to be Colin’s last year and that was his wish but because the results are still good and he enjoys being in the team, there is now a request from Colin to think
about one more year.”
Poncharal commented that he was a little surprised with Edwards’ talks. However, he will further discuss the matter with Edwards during the Indy GP.
The Tech3 team boss also said that Yamaha US is ready to keep Edwards in the squad as an ambassador for the group.
