Mont Blanc to get the better of rivals in Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap at Roscommon
Mont Blanc, who recently recorded her maiden success at Wexford, is one of the less exposed types at Roscommon, and can outsmart the giants, such as the highly consistent Irish Reel and top weight Mahaazen in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund
Fillies Handicap on Monday, September 03, 2012.
After a couple of unlucky rides early in August, the K. J. Condon-trained finally opened her account in a great fashion. The audience at Wexford saw her demonstrating an excellent show in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden.
Ridden by Shane Foley, the filly made a decent start, and subsequently went third halfway. She ran well to lead a couple of furlongs ahead of the wire. The 8-1 chance stayed on well when challenged in the final furlong and with the help of an outstanding
effort, the filly seized the top rank by one and a half length. It was certainly an eye-catching run, and the filly must go close if running up to that mark.
The action will get started at 17:05 GMT. The 1-mile 2-furlong meeting has attracted 10 entries, and the contestants will run for a handsome cash prize worth €12,075.
Irish Reel has been performing consistently since the start of this season. After grabbing the well-deserved runner-up place here on August 20th, H. Rogers’ trainee raised her game to ensure a comprehensive win at Tipperary. In the Meadowview
Stables Handicap, the 5-year-old justified her highest starting price of 7 to 4 in the hands of Chris Hayes.
The mare was dominant right from the start, and retained her advantage all the way through. Aidan O’Brien’s trainee, Circle, came up with a serious challenge in the final moments, but the winning runner did well to notch up the first place by one and a quarter
lengths.
The conditions are also suitable for Mahaazen, who should go well for a long way. She and Irish Reel will make things very tricky for Mont Blanc, but the recent Wexford maiden winner is expected to respond well, and get the better of them. Good luck to all
the runners.
