Monta Ellis, Eric Maynor: Top Five guard available on the trade block – NBA Special Report (Part-1)
Even though the National Basketball Association is experiencing the lockout at the moment, however it has not hampered the teams from considering their options on the NBA trading block. Once the league gets back to the business,
the teams will be seen making all sorts of moves on the quest of adding some strength to their roster.
All the teams have grabbed their chances in the 2011 NBA Draft and they are only left with the free agency and trades to improve their sides furthermore. The free agency will take place right after the lockout comes to an end as
the franchises are already streamlining their options for whenever that happens.
There are a number of big guns in the market who can become a valuable asset for any team. Here is a list of the top five guards on the trading block.
Monta Ellis
One of the most eminent scorers in the NBA, Golden State Warriors combo guard Monta Ellis is any team’s dream on the front court. Ellis has the potential to play as both shooting and point guard for any team and is one of the most
talked about player in this year’s trade.
The Warriors are believed to have given a negative response to the trade initially, however they stated later that a substantial deal can force the team to make a move. The franchise was in the market to trade Ellis before the
NBA draft; however they didn’t find a decent enough deal to make a settlement.
Any team who is short on a scoring option – Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets and Chicago Bulls being the standout - will definitely be looking forward to run after the 25 years old Ellis who is still quite young and extremely
talented. In the last season, Ellis averaged 24.1 points, 5.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.
The most dominating aspects of Monta Ellis’ game-play are his versatility and athleticism which makes him invincible on the court. Monta might be undersized; however he plays big and has the strength to power the team on the offense.
The Los Angeles Lakers might acquire the offensive threat to support the legendary Kobe Bryant on the front court.  Last season, Bryant was the only player in the Lakers line-up who was running the offensive system and whenever
the superstar failed to land a decent performance, Lakers struggled to mark an impression.
The New Jersey Nets are also strong contenders who would like to have Ellis on their side to support the All-Star Deron Williams and convince him to stay who can opt to become a free agent in the summer 2012.
Eric Maynor
Even though the Oklahoma City Thunder exercised their option to keep the 24 year old point guard Eric Maynor with the team however, after selecting the point guard Reggie Jackson, Maynor remains in the market for trade. The Thunder
tried to trade Eric on the draft day and now after having four point guards on the team. Given the situation, the franchise must be looking forward for a reasonable deal to trade Eric and acquire someone to add depth to other positions.
