Monta Ellis: Trade scenarios involving the Golden State Warriors guard – NBA Feature (Part -5)
Chicago Bulls:
When the Eastern Conference Finals ended last pots-season, whole of the NBA was abuzz about the fact that Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls would have been able to reach the NBA Finals, had there been one more scoring outlet for the Bulls.
As it turned out, this was not the case and the Bulls were emphatically knocked over by the mighty Miami Heat, the team which got swept by the Bulls in the regular season.
When the playoffs arrived, LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade turned on their intensity and after humbling Boston Celtics in the Conference Semifinals, they locked horn with the Bulls. LeBron James owned Rose in that series and the rest as they say was history.
While players like Luol Deng and Taj Gibson stood up in the last season, Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer, two players with bloated contracts, proved to be total disappointments.
Carlos Boozer’s struggles were especially pronounced as it was him, who was supposed to get going, once Rose failed. However, that never happened and the Bulls now need to look for another option.
This is where Monta Ellis comes into the equation.
He is a sharp shooter, more than a handy play maker and to cap it off, he is a shooting guard – a position at which the Bulls need cover.
If Monta can make his way to the United centre, the Bulls will be able to form a lethal combo at the guard position. Rose proved last season that he belongs among the big boys and with a credible scoring option covering his back, he would certainly be able to express himself more freely.
The move will also bode well for Ellis. One, he will enhance the chances of getting his hands on the championship ring very quickly and secondly, he does not need to worry about the defensive aspect of his game. Chicago is a team that thrives on defense and with Tom Thibodeau at the helm of affairs; they have developed a robust defensive system. With nearly all other players already adept in this facet, Ellis could afford to take his time.
The move however can be tricky for the Warriors. There is no doubt that the Warriors will want a big and some extra perks in return for Ellis. The problem for them, is which big to select.
Carlos Boozer is a great player, but he has the tendency to be inconsistent. Joakim Noah is the other option. He can give Warriors the defensive intensity, they so badly need. However, Noah is injury prone and also weak on offense. Plus, both of them have huge contracts, which makes it all the more difficult for the deal to materialize.
