Monta Ellis’ big night pushes Milwaukee Bucks past Atlanta Hawks 108 – 101 – NBA Recap
The Milwaukee Bucks picked up a win over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday after an exciting encounter. The Bucks were efficient throughout and their final push proved too much for the Hawks at the Bradley Center, bowing out at 108 – 101.
Monta Ellis was the force behind Milwaukee’s success. Ellis was in the zone tonight and scored a game high 33 points. He also had 8 assists and 4 rebounds, despite fatigue from the Bucks’ busy schedule.
"I saw my wife (Juanika) today. She really lifted me up; because that's the first time she's been here. And then to see my kids (son Monta Jr. and daughter Myla) on FaceTime, that really lifted me up, so I just wanted to come out and have some fun tonight."
Brandon Jennings scored 18 points and dished out 6 assists while Mike Dunleavy came off the bench for 13. Drew Gooden managed 16 with 5 rebounds and the same number of assists.
For the Hawks, dynamic forward Josh Smith was once again in scintillating form. Smith scored a whopping 30 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in a massive double-double. He also had 5 assists, albeit it was ultimately in a losing effort.
Jeff Teague scored 15 points with 7 assists while Ivan Johnson came off the bench for 17.
The start of the game was extremely competitive. The two side matched up well and the scores remained close, 17 – 16 to the Hawks with 5:46 left in the first quarter. The Bucks then had a 6 – 0 spurt to go ahead 22 – 17. They later stretched the lead to
31 – 21 before the segment ended at 31 – 23.
The second period opened with a 5 – 0 burst by the Bucks, who took their lead into double digits, 36 – 23. Just after the halfway mark they stretched to 46 – 29. The Hawks immediately hit back with a 6 – 0 burst, making it 46 – 35, and they continued to
push, taking the gap into single digits at halftime, 55 – 46.
Atlanta though came out of the interval all guns blazing. They scored a whopping 33 points in the 3rd quarter, holding the Bucks to just 23. At the end of the period thus they had overturned the deficit and were slightly ahead at 79 – 78.
A blazing start to the final quarter put the Bucks up again, 89 – 85. They never looked back afterwards as the Hawks ran out of ammunition, Milwaukee securing a 108 – 101 win.
