Monta Ellis willing to stay with the Golden State Warriors – NBA Update
Throughout the past month, rumours have been doing the rounds that Monta Ellis is on his way out of the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are believed to have shopped him to teams around the NBA to test what they could get in
return.
It was earlier believed that both the team and the player wanted to part company; however the latest reports have dismissed the notion.
During a meeting with team management last Thursday Monta Ellis reportedly expressed his desire to stay with the Golden State Warriors. Monta has developed into one of the league’s most potent offensive weapons during his time
in Golden State and seemingly wants to continue playing here.
However, he did make it clear to the management that he would not hang around much longer if the franchise was not serious about being successful and made moves to that effect. The Golden State Warriors are under new ownership
and Ellis apparently wants to give the new owners, Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, a chance to prove their ambition.
Hence he declared at the meeting that he would wait until the trade deadline next February to see which direction the club was going in. If it was the same direction that he wanted to go in, he would stay; otherwise he would like
to be traded to a franchise, where he can be part of a success story.
The new owners certainly are trying to bring about some positive changes at the franchise. They fired Don Nelson earlier to try and change the atmosphere around the Warriors franchise. They have also guaranteed a lot of new ideas
by hiring ambitious rookie coach Mark Jackson. Jackson is a former player who was an analyst for a TV channel before taking the job and he has no coaching experience whatsoever.
The Warriors took another step in the right direction by drafting promising guard Klay Thompson, son of a former NBA player, as their pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. More changes could follow at the franchise but Monta Ellis just might
be used to bring them about.
The player who averaged over 24 points as well as 5.6 assists per game last season is one of the few trade assets that the Warriors possess and could be utilized to bring in some fresh faces in the side. There have already been
rumours about his possible departure with the Warriors believed to have held talks with the Philadelphia 76ers over a possible swap of Ellis with Sixers’ defensive specialist guard Andre Iguodala.
Nothing has come off it so far but things could change very quickly when the NBA’s ongoing labour dispute is finally resolved.
