Montaff looking for an upset in Redstone Shergar Cup Stayers (Handicap)
A special effort from Montaff will be required to earn him a victory in the Redstone Shergar Cup Stayers (Handicap) at Ascot in England on Saturday, August 11, 2012. He does not have a good record at this venue, but will be looking to turn things around
this time.
The track conditions have been better for racing over the past few weeks in England, which is positive news for the organisers and the participants. The going has been described as good to firm in the 2 mile event, which will start at 13:30 GMT.
Although, some quality runners have been attracted towards the class-2 race, yet no one seems to be in a dominant position right now. This will make the competition quite interesting at the end of the day.
Address Unknown has managed to get the attention of the bookies because of his decent run last time around at Ascot. He has been rated as the favourite with a starting price of 4 to 1.
However, things will not be easy for the Ian Williams’ trainee, who will have to cope up with the aggression of Montaff, who will enter the event with odds of 7 to 1. He does not have a good strike rate, but will have a great chance of succeeding today.
The seasoned gelding has participated in a total of 37 events, but has managed to win just a couple of them. He did manage to finish as a runner up on six times whereas secured the third spot thrice in his career.
Overall, the Mick Channon’s trainee has appeared in five races at Ascot, but has never managed to win at this venue. This is not a good sign at all and the punters will think twice before risking money on him.
However, Montjeu’s son improved his performance last time around, finishing third. The track conditions were similar to what they are today, thus he will not have any major issues in the end.
The 2012 season has not been a very good one for Montaff and he will need to be at his absolute best in order to cause an upset. His partner will be Johnny Murtagh, who has paired up with him in the past as well.
